Ros-Lehtinen signs letter to House leaders asking to extend the Homebuyer's Tax Credit past the November 30th deadline

October 14, 2009

Washington, DC --- Congresswoman Ileana Ros-Lehtinen, a senior member of the Florida Congressional Delegation, signed a letter today, Wednesday, asking House leaders to extend the homebuyer’s tax credit before it expires on November 30, 2009. This extension will continue to assist South Florida’s recovery from the brutal housing situation that is weighing down the rest of the economy.

The Housing Tax Credit needs to be extended so we do not lose the economic benefits we have gained since the credit was put into effect. This credit will continue helping first time home buyers get into the market and in the process will generate more tax revenues for the Treasury, stabilizing local economies. The letter to the House leadership is signed by 101 bi-partisan members of the House.

Said Ros-Lehtinen, “Extending this first time homebuyer’s tax credit makes sense as this credit has brought buyers back into the market in South Florida and across the nation. This is not the solution to all of our housing woes but it is definitely the right move to spur activity in a comatose housing market that needs assistance.”
