Highlighting Our Nation’s Diversity, Ros-Lehtinen Participates in “A Congress of Immigrants” Project

Oct 24, 2013

Miami, Florida –Congresswoman Ileana Ros-Lehtinen, a senior member of the Florida congressional delegation, was pleased by the release of the release of the Congress of Immigrants project, sponsored by HIAS: International Jewish Nonprofit that Protects Refugees. This project presents the compelling immigration narratives from Jewish members of Congress as a way to put a human face on the immigration debate and to remind the public of the historic role that immigration has played in defining the character of American culture. U.S. Reps. Adam Schiff, Jan Schakowsky, Debbie Wasserman Schultz, Jerry Nadler, and others participated along with Ros-Lehtinen.

Statement by Ros-Lehtinen: “I was pleased to participate in the Immigration Minyan project highlighting Jewish immigration. My mother’s parents, Sephardic Jews who immigrated to Cuba from Turkey, likely never imagined one of their descendants would one day be a Member of Congress. This project will help preserve the history of our nation and show the positive contributions immigration has made to our great nation.”
