House Overwhelmingly Approves Legislation That Authorizes Major Construction Projects At VA Facilities Across The Nation; Ros-Lehtinen Pleased That Bill Includes Funds To Finally Finish Construction Of Miami VA Operating Room

Washington, DC ---- Today, the U.S. House of Representatives overwhelmingly approved legislation that authorizes major construction projects at VA facilities across the nation. Congresswoman Ileana Ros-Lehtinen is pleased with its passage as the bill includes the completion of the operating room at the Miami Veterans Affairs Medical Center.

Construction of the operating room at the Miami VA was suspended in March of this year at 85% completion because of a Miami VA administration error. Since construction began, the Miami VA has been using medical trailers outside the VA facility for their surgeries and other delicate medical work. This legislation will authorize the Miami VA to finish construction so that our local veterans can have the safe and modern environment they deserve.

Said Ros-Lehtinen, “I am pleased that this bill was overwhelmingly passed by the House. This legislation authorizes badly needed construction projects in VA facilities across the nation. In my hometown, the Miami VA will now be able to finish the construction of the operating room at the veteran’s medical center and this is good news for the many veterans who depend on that center for their urgent care.

Though I am pleased that this project will finally be completed, I am once again concerned with the apparent disarray from the administration at the Miami VA. Though the Department of Veterans Affairs has already taken action against some who caused the delay in construction, this once again calls attention to the lack of leadership and accountability that has plagued the Miami VA Medical Center for the last few years. I can only hope that this is the last time we have to deal with another issue like this, for the well being of our veterans.”
