Ros-Lehtinen Is Joined By South Florida Colleagues Diaz-Balart, Wasserman Schultz, Deutch, and Garcia in Bipartisan Push to Take Action in Venezuela, Calls for Sanctions Against Maduro Regime Officials Connected to Human Rights Abuses

“Now is the time for action in Venezuela…now is the time for the Administration to show it is serious about defending the cause of freedom and liberty for all, and not just when it is convenient”

(WASHINGTON) – U.S. Rep. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen (R-FL), Chairman of the Middle East and North Africa Subcommittee, made the following statement today regarding the bipartisan letter she wrote, along with Reps. Mario Diaz-Balart (R-FL), Albio Sires (D-NJ), Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D-FL), Ted Deutch (D-FL), Joe Garcia (D-FL), and 13 others, that urges President Obama to take immediate action against Maduro and other Venezuelan officials responsible for human rights violations against the people of Venezuela.  Statement by Ros-Lehtinen:

“As the Venezuelan regime continues its brutal crackdown on the freedom seekers’ peaceful demonstrations, it’s time for the Obama Administration to sanction these human rights abusers.  Now is the time for action in Venezuela, and now is the time for the Administration to show it’s serious about defending the cause of freedom and liberty for all, and not just when it’s convenient. Together with Mario, Albio, Debbie, Ted, Joe, and 13 other Members, I’m calling on President Obama to take immediate action against Maduro and his cronies by denying them entry to the United States, blocking their property and freezing assets, and prohibiting them from making any financial transactions in the U.S. We must send a strong signal to the Maduro regime that these transgressions against the people of Venezuela have their consequences.”
