Ros-Lehtinen Pleased That Government Funding Bill Includes Provisions Protecting The Unborn

Dec 19, 2011 Issues: Health, Protecting Children

Washington, DC ---- Congresswoman Ileana Ros-Lehtinen (R-FL) welcomed the passage of the FY2012 appropriations bill that reduced government spending, eliminated wasteful programs and also included key pro-life policies.

The legislation maintains all current federal restrictions on abortion funding, such as the Hyde Amendment, the Hyde-Weldon abortion non-discrimination provision, rape reporting requirements, and Dickey Wicker restrictions on embryo destructive research funding.  In addition, Title X funding, which helps fund Planned Parenthood, was reduced by $2 million.  U.S. contributions to the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) were also reduced by $5 million.  The UNFPA has been complicit in supporting China’s policies of forced abortions and sterilization.

Said Ros-Lehtinen: “I am pleased we were able to reduce spending for the second year in a row for the first time since World War II, while also holding fast to our commitment to the unborn.  Our values and belief in the dignity of the unborn are reflected in this legislation.  We must continue to ensure that taxpayers are not subsidizing abortion.”
