Ros-Lehtinen Statement on Passing of Congressman Donald Payne

(WASHINGTON) – U.S. Rep. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen (R-FL), Chairman of House Foreign Affairs Committee, released the following statement on the passing of Congressman Donald Payne (D-NJ), a senior Member of the Committee and the Ranking Member of the Subcommittee on Africa, Global Health, and Human Rights:

“I wish to extend my deepest condolences to the Payne family, and to the New Jersey community and Congressional delegation.

“Congressman Payne was a dedicated and effective advocate for global health and human rights during his 12 terms in the House.  As Chairman and Ranking Member of the Subcommittee on Africa, Global Health, and Human Rights, Congressman Payne worked tirelessly to combat the spread of deadly diseases such as HIV/AIDS, malaria, and tuberculosis.  He was also an outspoken advocate against horrific human rights abuses in Africa.

“My thoughts and prayers are with the Payne family during this painful and difficult time.  He will be greatly missed.”
