With Speaker Boehner Appointing Ros-Lehtinen To Rules Committee, Congresswoman Says She Looks Forward To This New Opportunity To Serve South Florida & Our Nation; Ileana Is Also The Chairman Designate For The Subcommittee On The Middle East Of Foreign Affairs Comm.

Washington, DC – Congresswoman Ileana Ros-Lehtinen (R-FL) issued the following statement after being selected by Speaker of the House John Boehner to serve on the Rules Committee. This Committee decides what legislation makes it to the House floor and its members are chosen by the Speaker of the House. Ros-Lehtinen is also the Chairman-Designate of the Subcommittee on the Middle East of the Foreign Affairs Committee. Because of term limits set by the GOP leadership, Ros-Lehtinen stepped down from the Chairmanship of the Foreign Affairs Committee.

Ros-Lehtinen’s statement:

“I am honored that Speaker Boehner has asked me to join the Rules Committee. I look forward to this new opportunity to serve South Florida and our nation as we face challenges in both domestic and foreign policy that will decide our future course. I have spoken to the incoming Chairman of the Rules Committee, Pete Sessions, about my role in the Committee and I am very pleased.

Being a member of the Rules Committee carries great responsibility and I appreciate the trust that Speaker Boehner has placed in me. My number one priority as a member of this Committee and of Congress is to get our nation’s economy back on track and assure that we pass legislation that accomplishes both of these critical issues. I look forward to working with the other members on the Rules Committee in crafting bills that better the state of our nation.”
