Thanking All Those Who Attended Military Academy Night, Ros-Lehtinen Pleased with Community Interest and Support

“Our young men and women who wish to serve their country are an inspiration to their peers.”

Miami, Florida –Congresswoman Ileana Ros-Lehtinen thanked all members of the South Florida community who attended her annual military academy night this week at the historic Miami Senior High School. In addition to the parents and students who attended the event, Ros-Lehtinen invited representatives from West Point, the Air Force Academy, the Naval Academy, the Merchant Marine Academy, and the Coast Guard Academy to answer questions and concerns from students and parents alike.

Ileana's husband, Dexter, volunteered and was severely wounded in combat in Vietnam; her stepson and daughter-in-law, Doug and Lindsay, served as Marine officers in Iraq, and; Lindsay also served in Afghanistan and is a graduate of the Naval Academy.

Statement by Ros-Lehtinen:

“I was encouraged to see so many parents, students, and representatives from the various military academies at Miami Senior High School. The nation’s military academies are pre-eminent educational and service institutions that work to shape tomorrow’s leaders. Our young men and women who wish to serve their country are an inspiration to their peers.

My husband, Dexter, step-son, Doug, and daughter-in-law, Lindsay, have all served our country honorably. My family knows the risks and rewards of serving our country and there is no higher calling than being on the front lines of freedom. I salute all who wish to serve their nation.”

NOTE: The deadline to apply for nomination to any service academy is Monday, December 16, 2013. All interested applicants should contact Congresswoman Ros-Lehtinen’s Congressional Aide, Erick Hueck, at 305-668-2285 or Erick.Hueck@mail.house.gov.
