UN Human Rights Council Marks 10th Anniversary With 5 Anti-Israel Measures; Ros-Lehtinen Labels Measures Disgraceful, Calls on Obama Administration to Respond, Hold Abu Mazen and UNHRC Accountable

(Washington, DC) – U.S. Rep. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen (R-FL), Chairman of the Subcommittee on the Middle East and North Africa, made the following statement today after the UN Human Rights Council concluded its annual “Bash Israel Day” session. The session ended with the UNHRC adopted 5 anti-Israel measures, including a measure that would create a “blacklist” of companies doing business in the West Bank, East Jerusalem and the Golan Heights, while passing 4 condemnatory measures on the rest of the world combined. Statement by Ros-Lehtinen:

“The latest actions at the UN Human Rights Council are simply beyond the pale. But giving Abu Mazen’s efforts to delegitimize and isolate Israel with this UN compiled blacklist of companies doing business in the West Bank, East Jerusalem and the Golan Heights should be a call to action for the Obama administration and for responsible nations around the world to bring an end to this farce at the UNHRC once and for all. As if that wasn’t enough for this disgraced body, the panel is expected to appoint Michael Lynk, an individual with a history of bias against the Jewish State and who has openly called for Israel to be brought up for war crimes at the ICC, as the next special rapporteur on the Palestinian territories.

“It’s no surprise to anyone who follows this charade we call the UNHRC that the body would use its latest session to bash the democratic Jewish State of Israel while ignoring the real human rights abusers around the globe – that’s par for the course. When countries like China, Cuba, Russia, Vietnam and Venezuela sit on the UN’s primary human rights body, the system has failed. President Obama must condemn these latest resolutions in no uncertain terms, he must move to dissolve the UNHRC, and most importantly, he must move to counter Abu Mazen’s efforts against Israel at the UN.”
