As We Observe Another Sad Tragedy Of The March 13 Tugboat Massacre In Havana Harbor, We Are Reminded Of The Brutality Of The Castro Regime & Of The Desperate Need To Bring Democracy To Cuba, Says Ros-Lehtinen
Miami, Florida --- Congresswoman Ileana Ros-Lehtinen (R-FL) issued the following statement on the 19th anniversary of the sinking of the tugboat March 13th in Havana Harbor, Cuba. 72 Cubans were aboard the tugboat as it headed north with the hopes of reaching freedom in U.S. shores, but when it was intercepted by the Castro dictatorship’s Coast Guard and attacked with high pressure water hoses, 37 Cubans were killed, including 10 children.
Said Ros-Lehtinen, “What occurred aboard the tugboat March 13 was a wanton massacre that has been all but forgotten by responsible democratic nations. 37 Cubans, including 10 children, were drowned when the Castro regimes so called Coast Guard attacked the boat with high pressure water hoses. Mothers recount the harrowing tales of helplessly watching their children be taken from their arms by the force of the water hoses and watching them drown before their very eyes. The callousness and outright evil displayed by the Castro tyranny during this murderous event showcases the vileness of the Castro brothers and the octogenarian clique that terrorizes the Cuban nation.
As we observe another sad tragedy of the March 13 tugboat massacre in Havana Harbor, we are reminded of the brutality of the Castro regime and of the desperate need to bring democracy to Cuba.”
