Pastor Saeed’s Imprisonment Is An Iranian Regime Ploy & He Must Be Released Immediately, Ros-Lehtinen Says Also Calls for the 14 Journalists Who Were Summarily Arrested Over the Weekend to be Released

Washington, DC – Congresswoman Ileana Ros-Lehtinen (R-FL), Chairman of the Middle East and North Africa Subcommittee, made the following statement on Iran’s sentencing of U.S. citizen Pastor Saeed Abedini and called on the Iranian regime to release Pastor Saeed, the 14 journalists summarily arrested over the weekend, and all those wrongfully imprisoned in Iran. Statement by Ros-Lehtinen:

“The sentencing of Pastor Saeed is a shameless act by a desperate regime. This heinous regime will do anything, including imprison a United States citizen, to wage its propaganda war against the West and deny freedom and justice to those in Iran who dare to even question its authority.

The Pastor Saeed case, just like the cases of the 14 journalists who were summarily arrested over the weekend, is just the tip of the iceberg on what will come from the regime’s paranoia. Ahmadinejad and his cronies are rotten to the core and this is a sign that panic continues to set in on Tehran as international sanctions measures continue to impact the Iranian leadership and economy.

“The U.S. and all responsible nations must demand not only the release of Pastor Saeed, but of all those wrongfully imprisoned in Iran’s dungeons.  We must increase pressure on the regime until the basic rights, freedoms, and dignities of the Iranian people are respected.”
