Ros-Lehtinen Statement on the Rumored Electoral Changes Regarding Venezuelan Vote

Miami, Florida - U.S. Rep. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen (R-FL) made the following statement on rumors of changes by Venezuela’s National Electoral Council (known through its initials in Spanish, CNE) that are intended to suspend established fingerprint verification protocol which will open the door for potential fraud. Statement by Ros-Lehtinen:

"Maduro’s Constituent Assembly vote at the end of July must be a red line for the United States and responsible nations. This vote orchestrated by Maduro is unconstitutional according to the Venezuelan Constitution and only serves to undermine the current democratically-elected National Assembly. To make matters worse, rumors have surfaced that the Maduro-controlled electoral council is taking steps to commit fraud and again disenfranchise the Venezuelan people. I call on responsible nations to closely monitor the deteriorating situation in Venezuela and condemn Maduro for moving forward with this blatant attempt to consolidate more power.”
