Ros-Lehtinen Statement on Signing Discharge Petition To Force Debate on DREAMer Legislation

(Washington, DC) - U.S. Rep. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen (R-FL) made the following statement on her joining a discharge petition to force debate on legisation which would give DREAMers permanent legal status. Statement by Ros-Lehtinen:

“Throughout my tenure in Congress, I have refused to sign discharge petitions when Republicans are in the majority because I consider them to be a political tool used by those in the minority. That is still my belief. However, this majority-driven petition will be my exception to that rule. For far too long, the House has refused to act to protect DREAMers. We can no longer sit with our arms crossed waiting for a ‘magic wand’ solution. I join my colleagues, Carlos, Jeff, Will, Mario, David, and Mia who have signed this discharge petition to force a debate on legislation that will enshrine permanent legal status for these young men and women. Our DREAMers cannot live waiting on court decision to court decision. The time to act is now.”
