THIS WEEKEND IN SOUTH FLORIDA: Cong. Ros-Lehtinen Schedules Events Throughout Community Hosting Congressional Recognition Student Awards, Meeting With Top Cuban Opposition Leader, Honoring Upcoming Eagle Scouts, & Other Events

Miami, Florida - Congresswoman Ileana Ros-Lehtinen (R-FL) has scheduled a busy weekend throughout the Congressional District she so proudly represents in Congress. Below is a listing of the events, press is invited and encouraged to attend.

Tomorrow, Saturday April 27th at 10:00am: Ileana continues her yearly tradition of hosting the Congressional Recognition Ceremony where students from across Miami-Dade County are recognized by Ileana for their hard work in achieving academic excellence. This year more than 150 students from 40 schools will be attending the ceremony and Cong. Ros-Lehtinen looks forward to meeting them and their families. The ceremony takes place in the auditorium of Coral Gables Senior High School (450 Bird Road, Miami).

At 12 Noon, Ileana will attend a luncheon hosted by the prominent Cuban-American exile organization Mar Por Cuba in honor of the leader of the Ladies in White, Berta Soler. Ros-Lehtinen met this week with Berta in Washington, DC and she looks forward to welcoming her to Miami and thanking her for her brave work on behalf of human rights in Cuba and against the Castro dictatorship. This event will take place at the Big Five Club (600 SW 92 Avenue, Miami).

At 4:00pm, Ileana will participate in the Boy Scouts Troop 457’s Eagle Court of Honor where eight Scouts will receive their Eagle Badge. Ileana had a flag flown over the U.S. Capitol in honor of each Scout and will present each of them with a flag. The Eagle Court of Honor for Troop 457 will take place at Kendall United Methodist (7600 SW 104 Street, Pinecrest).

At 6:00pm, Cong. Ros-Lehtinen will attend the 35th Annual Miami-Dade County Farm Bureau BBQ where Ileana greets and meets local families from across South Dade. The Farm Bureau BBQ is a great opportunity to listen to the concerns of farmers and growers from the area. This event takes place at the Dimare Annex Florida City State Farmers Market (300 Krome Avenue, Florida City).

On Sunday, April 28th, Cong. Ros-Lehtinen will meet with John Caulfield, the Principal Officer at the U.S. Interests Section in Havana, Cuba, to discuss recent developments on the island. This meeting is private and not open to press.

At 6:30pm, Ileana will participate in an event hosted by the Young Israel of Kendall Jewish Center where she will be awarded the Friend of Israel-Champion of Freedom Award. The evening’s guest of honor is Sylvia Urlich Fox and Ileana looks forward to meeting the members of this vibrant center of Jewish life in South Florida. The Young Israel of Kendall Jewish Center is located at 7880 SW 112 Street, Miami.
